A nightstand is a humble piece of furniture that sits vigil beside the bed, silently accumulating all manner of nightly detritus. Forgotten by day under a haze of dust, it transforms by night into a catchall shrine for smartphones, glasses, and half-empty water glasses. Its drawers creak open like the gates of a petty god’s realm, surveying the chaotic rituals of its owner’s bedtime routine. People deposit their last vestiges of wakefulness upon it, only to discover in the morning that something has mysteriously vanished.
