Canonical criticism is the art of dragging holy scriptures from dusty shelves and dissecting the layers of tradition down to their marrow. Stories meant to nourish faith are reconstructed as scribal blunders and power plays. Why, the devout believer never doubts that their version of the text is the "true" one, but canonical criticism shatters that illusion without mercy. Form criticism is the scholar’s pastime of stripping away the cosmetic forms of texts to expose the shadows of history beneath. Despite its banner of objective analysis, it is essentially an academic meta-drama devised to legitimize the thrill one feels before an ancient manuscript. The faith that truth emerges from dissecting form is nothing more than self-deception in which one is both the dissector and the devout believer.

Narrative theology is the art of placing fragments of scripture upon the stage of story to orchestrate the mystery of faith. One watches characters pray, demons speak, and miracles embellished as if in a slideshow, discovering one’s own drama within. It blurs the line between truth-seeking and fantasy, providing a communal scenario in which all may find comfort. On the church stage, tradition and creativity duet, erasing question marks and producing a spectacle of reassurance.
