Self-discipline is the noble hypocrisy of suppressing today’s pleasures to deceive tomorrow’s self. It appears exalted in the speeches of achievers but functions in reality as punishment for a desire-wracked soul. Under the pretext of goal attainment, it perpetually postpones sweet rest in an almost lunatic ritual. Occasionally, one must glare at the snooze button of an alarm clock with bitter contempt.
