#Consolation

Consolation is the ritual combining a lecture and a follow-up care offered to those bearing wounds. It is the embodiment of a selfish urge to redirect someone else’s misfortune toward oneself in order to rebalance one’s own psyche. One must never forget that beneath warm words often lies an unsolicited judgment and a seed of comparison. And ultimately, what remains is the absurd chain of mutual comfort that says, “Well, at least I’m better off than you.”
