Mediation is a so-called high-end entertainment that grants a temporary break to warring parties. It’s lauded as a ritual of wisdom that wraps each side’s grievances in gloss while they eye each other for the perfect compromise. In reality, it’s merely a convenient device for avoiding true resolution and muddling responsibility. The moment someone declares “we’ve met halfway,” the show ends, and all real issues are fated to the next act.
