Linear perspective is the artful imposition of depth onto a flat plane. It lures the viewer into a two-dimensional canvas while bending the simplicity of reality. Scholars wield formulas, artists behave like con artists manipulating guiding lines. Architects fall for the illusion, only to find blueprints and real-world dimensions mismatched. Ultimately, no one escapes the spell of a two-dimensional fantasy.

A sketch is the ceremonial act by which anyone with paper and pencil instantly proclaims themselves an artist. It is the artistic sleight of hand that forces the viewer to supply significance where detail is lacking.
