Mindful eating is a ritual of savoring every bite in the here and now, only to escape into other thoughts. While its supposed goal is healthier eating, it often becomes a mental trick for managing guilt. Counting breaths and chews deepens one's self-indulgence in a solo performance. Many tire themselves out recording every detail on their phone before they even taste a bite. In the end, what's truly savored is not the food, but the vanity of being 'conscious'.
