End of life is the anteroom before the grand climax of life’s theater, where the lead searches blindly for a script. As resources named life dwindle, one is forced into a merciless waltz of pain and dignity. Medical staff do their utmost to earn the audience’s applause, yet no one can predict when the curtains will rise. The lights called hope gradually dim, and the drape named reality begins its silent descent. One must decide how to use the few remaining spotlight moments before they fade.

ホスピスとは、人生最後のステージを飾る名目上の“休暇施設”でありながら、終わりを目前にした客に静かな恐怖と安らぎを同時に提供するアトラクションである。医療と人情の狭間で、「痛みを和らげる」という大義を掲げつつ、陰では終局への切符を無情に手渡すサービスとも言える。その理想は“尊厳ある最期”だが、実際にはリモネードよりも同意書の束が多く積まれている。訪れる患者は救いを求め、遺族は慰めを探すが、従事者はまるで死への誘導役を演じる舞台監督のように淡々とショーを進行する。最後の幕が下りるまで、誰一人として台本通りには泣かない儀式がここにはある。】】】】】】】」}
