Ablution is the ritual of immersing oneself in sacred water to wash away spiritual dirt. In practice, however, it is often a shiver-inducing plunge followed by the harsh reminder of a water bill. The saintliest ceremonies are not spared mundane queues and waiting lists. The more fervently one seeks purification, the more earthly desires seem to float to the surface. When one’s reflection shows tousled hair instead of serenity, the paradox of true cleansing becomes unmistakable.

The Absolute is an imaginary entity engineered as an all-purpose answer device that deflects both evidence and criticism with ease. It grows nourished by human anxiety and the desire to shirk responsibility, burying inconvenient questions under the label of miracles. Cloaked in divinity, it is in reality nothing more than a remote control that binds people’s morals and actions. To believers it is a fount of love and salvation; to skeptics it is a cage that seals off any escape. This omnipotent facade conveniently sidesteps uncomfortable truths.

Absolution is the ritual whereby one erases personal guilt through confession and acquires a mental get-out-of-jail-free card. It instantly obliterates past misdeeds and bestows the sweet illusion that "I can do it again with impunity." Misused, it spawns an endless cycle of sin and repentance, inviting a psychological death march. Beyond its religious roots, it functions in modern times as a self-justification machine.

An adept is a title bestowed upon one who flaunts inner mysteries while bystanders wonder what was actually achieved. They possess a secret key nobody asked for, whose purpose even they have forgotten. Ideally revered yet effectively ornamental, their true value is forever postponed. Occasionally they demonstrate ancient rites in casual conversation, artfully seeding disappointment in their audience.

Adoration prayer is a religious ritual in which participants chant a fixed script to an unseen entity, hoping to secure their own inner peace. It resembles reading a complex contract aloud as worshipers recite lofty petitions whose real purpose often boils down to fulfilling their peers’ need for social validation. At times, the sense of solidarity it creates acts like a universal remedy, only to covertly morph into peer pressure without warning. Once the prayers conclude, everyone nods as if completing a bureaucratic formality, conveniently forgetting the experience within hours. Considering the cost–benefit of this unconscious ceremony, one wonders if it's time for a system reboot.

Agape is the lofty notion of embracing all human frailties and hypocrisy without expectation, an unconditional love teetering between ideal and reality. It often leaps from sacred texts as a consecrated term that purportedly erases everyday cost-benefit calculations. In practice, however, it serves as nothing more than an echo chamber of guilt and self-satisfaction, a convenient tool to admonish oneself rather than transform others. The more one proclaims this ideal, the more numerous the caveats lurking in its shadow become, revealing a deeply ironic truth.

Agnus Dei is the Latin invocation praising the Lamb of God. It serves as a solemn poem of silence begging forgiveness from a world burdened with sin. Repeated endlessly as if detached from daily life, it risks degenerating into an empty ritual echo. Its resonance against cathedral vaults reveals the trembling of faith: a yearning for salvation entangled with ceremonial inertia.

An altar is an overly ornamented pedestal exhibited as high art for offerings to the divine. Endless arrays of incense burners and candles stand as props for pious performances, where worshipers fervently clasp hands. Ironically, the more lavish the display, the deeper the believer’s guilt and consumer zeal grow. So busy proclaiming sanctity, nobody seems to recall why they gathered here in the first place.

An altar rail is the elegant barricade standing between worshiper and the divine. From medieval times to the present, it has functioned as a device binding knees to the communion platform, clearly marking the boundary of prayer. While adding aesthetic value to church design, it simultaneously erects an invisible wall of guilt. A bizarre metronome that stages sacred distance while measuring the fervor of faith by the arrangement of pews.

Amen is the magic spell whispered at the end of a prayer to shift all responsibility to the heavens. Once uttered, the ritual ends and reality returns unchanged. Cloaked in solemn faith, it serves chiefly as an insurance policy for the soul and a convenient escape hatch.

An unpaid guardian that continues operating as a family’s posthumous surveillance system. An unpaid dealer trading blessings or curses in exchange for formal offerings and rituals. A push notification of tradition sent over the spiritual network from the grave. A silent evaluator who critiques the family head’s decisions without uttering a word. A zero-salary household advisor working intensively during Obon and higan. An intangible energy source fueled by descendants’ guilt. A spiritual creditor who refuses absence for fear of decapitation by oblivion. A persistent data bank preserving memories centered around the household. A stubborn archaic belief system surviving the tides of modern rationality. A stalker that publicly discloses family lineage without any regard for privacy.

Ancestral veneration is the traditional act of blessing the hardships of forgotten great-grandparents while barely lifting a finger, occasionally offering tea at an ancestral altar. Literally it might be described as a system for thanking one’s bloodline insurance. The ancestors whose posthumous reputations depend on rituals must be frustrated by their lack of a time machine. The more elaborate the ceremony the more conspicuous its convenience, providing the invisible foundation for modern self-satisfaction.
