genealogy research
Genealogy research is the lofty pastime of tracing one’s bloodline to discover how many ancestors were marriage fraudsters or enthusiastic drinkers. Aspirants hope to bask in the glory of long-dead heroes but usually succumb to name duplicates and mountains of photocopies. Their archives are zealously guarded by the dust of public records and a mother’s cold stare of “Enough with those old stories.” The grand conclusion inevitably becomes “It seems there was a distant relative who lost his way somewhere.”
