A smart city is a future metropolis promising optimization through countless sensors and data, while reducing citizens to perpetual surveillance fodder. Convenience is traded for privacy, which becomes sustenance for big data, and freedom is reduced to a single dashboard metric. Municipalities boast of improving livability by optimizing resident behavior, yet in reality they operate as human management systems akin to robotic oversight. Even at night, streetlights never sleep, recording every movement with eyes and microphones. Inhabitants eventually drown in their own lifelogs, where city noise and quantified metrics become the new normal.
