It proclaims breaking down ethnic and cultural barriers, yet secretly harbors elitism in airline miles and VIP lounges. True global citizenship may not be about understanding others but the art of self-satisfaction while ignoring your neighbor's language.

Globalism is the carnival of capital that laughs behind the scenes of cross-border freedom, where nations play marionettes for multinational giants. Under the guise of democracy, the wages of distant workers and our own way of life tremble in unison. Uttering the magic word ‘economic growth’ summons environmental destruction and social inequality as complimentary extras. The promise of world peace is often shelved in the name of market competition. Globalism is the unseen hand that impregnates every product we consume with its shadow rule.

Internationalism is the art of proclaiming the demolition of borders while conveniently enjoying domestic tax shelters. It repudiates the concept of nations even as its advocates remain firmly anchored in their own political arenas. Celebrating multilateral cooperation, it simultaneously champions preferential export deals for domestic industries. In other words, it is a global-sounding act performed for decidedly local gain. It is the amusing catch-all term for exposing the chasm between lofty ideals and practical self-interest.
