beatmaking

Beatmaking is the act of sampling the banality of time, trapping it in the prison of loops, and offering its echoes on the altar of commerce. It is the art of balancing flashes of inspiration with hubristic self-satisfaction, while morphing into a magician who compels someone to press the play button. The craftsman who manipulates BPM to the heartbeat of market forces conducts a duet that spawns both praise and scorn. In the end, the proof of worship and the target of ridicule merge into sales numbers, signed deals, and follower counts.

breakbeat

Breakbeat is the sonic labyrinth born from endlessly looping chopped drum segments pilfered from dusty old records. It blurs listeners’ ability to decide whether they’re dancing or drowning in sound, transforming dance floors into tribal altars. Once a proud advantage of Black music culture, the drum break is now casually remixed into a badge of hip novelty. A form of sampling violence that drags the past’s artistry around by its ears, all under the guise of creativity. Irresistible enough to make even the most cynical foot tap in grudging homage to its paradoxical charm.

rap

Rap is a rhythmic monologue where self-aggrandizement and swagger collide on the back of a beat, reflecting the speaker’s pride and vanity in a pulsating mirror. It is both a competitive arena of linguistic skill and a cult-like ritual where the desire for recognition runs wild on waves of bass.

turntablism

Turntablism is the ritual of calling the back-and-forth rubbing of a spinning analog disc a noble musical expression. It elevates crude noise and scratching to dispensations, and the audience interprets it as applause-worthy art. The neoliberal fetish for self-expression has turntables scraping into oblivion, mirroring the contradiction between obsession with art and the inevitability of consumption. The DJ spins, and the world is spun.
