Sworn to Saint John, they nonetheless amassed vast treasures and power across Europe, all under the guise of piety. On the battlefield, they preached loyalty; in court, they enforced silence, feared by popes and kings alike yet breeding suspicion among their own brethren. Ultimately condemned as heretics, they were led to the stake at royal command, embodying a charismatic blend of glory and downfall.

A thurible is a sacred “smoke generator” relegated to the corner of ritual or home, producing nothing but smoke and ash. It heralds the start of prayer and meditation in rising fumes, only to be forgotten under a mound of ash once the ceremony ends. Although incense is said to calm the mind, in reality it leaves nothing but cleaning chores and swirling fine dust. The more ornate its design, the more its practicality diminishes, so much so that its handler prays to the housekeeper rather than to the divine. Watching it burn itself out in service is a strangely hollow symbol of ritual.

Victims and perpetrators are equated in a ledger-balancing act that celebrates itself. Media hail it as proof of justice, as citizens wheel through waves of hope and disillusionment.

Version control is the electronic archive that hoards every triumph and disaster of development, inviting future chaos. With each experiment, bulging histories remind all of the dread of rollback. Every branching marks a festival of merge conflicts. Idealists dream of perfection, practitioners endure merge purgatory. By recording everything, it resurrects even the sins best left forgotten, a sardonic philosopher’s stone.

A prestigious title proclaimed to "preserve" cultural or natural sites, de facto serving as a glossy billboard for mass tourism. In practice, it translates to congested parking lots and overpriced trinket shops. UNESCO? More like the global photo-op committee.
