A bonus is the mythical reward that appears only once a year. It serves as litmus paper measuring employees’ expectations and the company’s wallet at the same time. The moment it arrives feels like a peak of self-esteem, yet most of it vanishes into taxes and the trap of next year’s targets. It is often inscribed not with "thank you," but with the spell "work harder," and still everyone flips the calendar in hope for next year.

Extrinsic motivation is the fancy term for humans chasing carrots labeled "bonus" and "praise" across a never-ending field. What began as a tool for self-improvement quickly morphs into corporate performance rigs and point-accumulation games. People pirouette for the applause of others, while convincing themselves they dance on their own accord. Clutching empty glass trophies to their chests, they remain perpetually famished at heart. Ironically, this hamster wheel of incentive is a mirror reflecting spectacular role reversal.

Motivation is the fickle measure of enthusiasm that rises and falls in perfect sync with shifting objectives. It’s the abstract buzzword that fills corporate PowerPoints while remaining undefined. We chase it to justify self-improvement, only to mourn its absence and hunt for the next spark. Under its guise, we shoulder all responsibility and lift the heaviest weights of expectation. A phantom whip driving us forward, simultaneously manufactured and depleted by the very pursuit of purpose.

The more proudly it's touted in slogans, the less effective it is in real work hours, often becoming nothing more than ballast on PowerPoint slides. In theory it praises intrinsic acclaim, but in the end it cannot hide that true driving forces are promotions and bonuses. Paradoxically, those lauded for their high motivation often remain pitiful beings trapped in the cages of self-deception and external validation.

Reward is the illusory candy craft that coats the bitterness of labor in sugar. The moment it is grasped, it feels sweet, yet its weight always summons the next round of toil. Touted as an honorable compensation, it is in reality just an ornament for the victor of the negotiation ritual. Many workers, lured by its sweetness, find themselves draped in chains before they know it. In the end, rewards are not given but fought over.

A token economy is the grand invention that replaces real currency with colorful points and badges to purchase human behavior. Effort and virtue are homogenized into uniform values like prizes in a gacha machine, providing no comfort unless motivation is quantified. What began as a psychological experiment has been adopted into corporate perks and legitimized by arming it with blockchain. Participants, like grown-up children, become addicted to collecting stamps, while genuine autonomy steadily erodes. All in the name of predictability and efficiency, it turns true motivation into a castle made of sand.
