The slogan of sustainability conveniently excludes them, relegating their fate to the margins of developed comfort zones. Human rights declarations are mere ledger illusions, as real-world rescue promises crumble like sandcastles under the tide. They are the shadows that slip through the safety nets woven by the civilization meant to protect the planet.

Diaspora is a pretentious social dispersal mechanism by which states scatter surplus populations across the globe. Individuals separated from their homelands become spectators in a never-ending performance of identity, chased by the phantom of return. It thrives as a fashionable buzzword in international discourse, where self-proclaimed liberals deploy it to signal virtue. In reality, it is an invisible labyrinth of borders and bureaucracy that leaves communities perpetually adrift.

Emigration is the ritual where one transports oneself to a foreign land, only to pledge fealty to a brand-new set of rules. Yet more often than not, those who flee their homeland are confronted by another barrage of constraints. In other words, the pursuit of freedom is a journey in search of different chains. Those chasing utopias tend to spend the longest hours queuing at bureaucratic counters. Ultimately, wherever you go, the paperwork finds you.

Environmental migration is the modern saga of residents who receive a game-over notice from warming or disasters and move to a new stage in search of survival. States present reconstruction plans, but the next disaster reduces them to mere slogans. Aid organizations pledge support, yet the more people move, the farther their promises drift with the landscape. Ultimately, the Earth plays the cruelty of a guide, and the choice of destination always lies with the displaced.

An immigrant is one who leaps over the invisible bars of borders in search of a new frontier. What greets them is often the hurdles of policy debates and visa procedures rather than open arms.
