Open innovation is the sacred ritual of legally borrowing others’ ideas, slapping on your company’s logo, and marketing them as your own. Inside the office, it’s called “co-creation,” though in reality it’s nothing more than free R&D outsourcing. Workshops consume mountains of sticky notes and coffee, while truly consumed are participants’ motivation and budgets. Everyone speaks of groundbreaking insights, yet what gets produced are management reports and self-satisfaction.
