Community policing is a social ritual that professes to protect citizen safety but in practice orchestrates mutual surveillance among residents and a blame-shifting performance when incidents occur. Officers shake hands with locals in smiles while surveillance cameras continue to pierce through with cold precision. It boasts respect for community input, yet all proposals are vetted in advance at the police station. Meetings encouraging citizen participation ultimately end in a few slides and sign-up sheets, then quietly adjourn. In short, it is a curious hybrid of goodwill and the urge to control.

Law enforcement is the ritual of erecting walls of regulations in the name of the law. Instead of questioning power, it sometimes renders ambiguous judgments and endlessly manufactures excuses for self-justification. It barks ceaselessly as the watchdog of authority, renaming silence as order. It threatens the very citizens it promises to protect, with definitions of violations shifting to suit the moment. Ultimately, it exists only as the spice that accentuates the flavor of justice.

Preventive policing is the state’s way of showing love: treating every citizen as a potential criminal under the pretense of crime prevention. Officers engineer and justify suspicious scenarios, then surveil those caught in the cycle with unwavering devotion. In the name of transparency and safety, privacy vanishes and freedom is repainted in shades of suspicion. On an invisible boundary, citizens become commodities trading both security and anxiety simultaneously.
