Every time lack of preparation is exposed, a new manual is born only to be buried without ever proving its worth. In conference rooms, people shout about swift action while on the ground they wage war armed with Excel sheets and PowerPoint slides. Attention to affected areas fades as quickly as the headlines, and everyone soon shifts their gaze to the next crisis. In the end, disaster response is nothing more than a mirror reflecting society’s impotence.

National security is the high-stakes trade-off between liberty and funding under the pretext of shielding citizens from unseen threats. At its core lies the paradox of ‘doubting in order to reassure,’ transforming surveillance tools into patriotic totems. Its borders extend not only to external enemies but also into the private lives of the populace, sacrificing the very freedoms it vows to protect. On an invisible boundary, citizens become commodities trading both security and anxiety simultaneously.

Public safety is the magical incantation by which authorities proclaim citizens safe while stringing an expanding web of cameras and regulations. Citizens cheerfully accept shackles in the name of safety, lulled by endless slogans and televised crime prevention messages. Its true purpose is to narrow freedom under the guise of maintaining order, a spectacle built on ever-growing billboards and infinite loop announcements. It combines Big Brother–style benevolence with an iron cage disguised as citizen care. In the end, public safety functions as the best resource for feeding both fear and the desire for control.
