Stoicism

Stoicism is the school of thought that chains emotions and crowns reason as the supreme virtue. Its honor-student posture of feigning indifference before pain becomes a grand performance to mask the soul’s unrest. Pursuing "inner tranquility" while silently deflecting life’s storms may resemble enlightenment—but perhaps it is driven by an equally fervent act. Above all, by expelling emotions, Stoicism paradoxically revels in a sentimental self-satisfaction, a pinnacle of paradoxical mind management.

temperance

Temperance is the act of building a cage for the beast of desire, only to misplace the key on schedule. The more it is praised, the more it crumbles in secret. Under the banner of self-management it justifies self-deception, culminating in a sacred ritual of atonement with ice cream. Example: He preached temperance while raiding the fridge at midnight.
