An association is a cloak of civility draped over a legion of private agendas and tangled obligations, bound together by the fetish of membership dues. Its halls echo with grand ideals in meetings and whisper with covert power plays at receptions. Titles once stamped with honor often serve as mere badges for elevator pitches. When the ceremonies end, only dusty bylaws remain to attest anyone’s purpose. New members invest in dreams; veterans put on the armor of vested interests.

Asylum is the diplomatic drama in which one voluntarily chooses an unstable status, savoring both the pity and indifference of others simultaneously. Once hailed as the prologue to epic heroism, it now entails navigating a labyrinth of paperwork and interviews. Border officials pretend to welcome, while scheming the next bureaucratic obstacle in private. Authoritarianism is the high-minded system of imprisoning individual will under the guise of absolute commands. It excels at chanting the mantra of order while domestically drowning dissent. Belonging is a social game of finding fellow stooges, and at the same time a testament of bonds laced with the poison of exclusion. We cling to groups seeking security, yet in doing so sow the seeds of rejecting others. What we gain through belonging is applause or ostracism, or often both. Everyone claims to crave independence, yet what they actually seek is subjugation to others. It is truly a communal carnival of shared illusions.

They pledge to honor the opponent's commitments, while conveniently misplacing their own whenever politically expedient. Bill of Rights is the venerable collection of paper that lets citizens and governments take turns declaring what insults they will tolerate. It stands as the oldest manual of collective bargaining for human dignity, often wielded as a shield for demanding personal freedom while ignoring the rights of others. Ceremonial applause accompanies its drafting, yet few understand the fine print until someone sues. In practice, the loudest voices win their clauses inscribed, and the rest is left to dusty archives. Today, it endures as the arena where noble ideals and political expediency spar in endless rhetoric.

Border control is the grand game in the theme park called a nation, where gatekeepers wave identity documents to sort the chosen from the rejected. Those who pass the procedure gain a fleeting sense of belonging, while those denied receive cold stares through glass. Often carried out under the banner of "security," its true form is a performance of inconvenience.
