In production, the trouble of capturing real sounds is forgone, so someone in a studio pounds flour and vegetables to create an 'explosion.' The effect may last only a brief moment, but the audience's willingness to endure infinite loops is absolute. Silence offers no currency in the realm of sound design, where the audio illusionists proudly peddle their wares.
