Longing is the spectacular frenzy of the heart intoxicated by an unreachable glow. It is a ritual of pouring passion into an idealized image while willfully ignoring one's own mediocrity. All too often, one trips gracefully between illusion and reality, returning home clutching battered fantasies. Those besotted with longing become irresponsible critics who endlessly romanticize someone else's life.
