Great Awakening

Faith & Philosophy

Description

Great Awakening is a collective ritual in which individuals boast of their enlightenment while actually amplifying chaos and anxiety around them. The loud proclamations of impending awakening often serve as a pretext for laziness and shirking responsibility. Personal “truths” mutate into hollow mantras chanted by the masses. The most fervent believers create a mirror-like solidarity that seals dissent with the brand of heresy. In the end, what remains is deeper unease and an inexplicable sense of emptiness, worse than before the awakening.

Definitions

  • A grand chorus shouting expectations of change while nobody actually changes a thing.
  • An expedition in search of new truths, yielding only an amplification of claims in an empty quest.
  • A ceremony of collective ecstasy, where elevated emotions coincide with the abandonment of critical thought.
  • Proclaims self-transcendence, yet ironically the first barrier to transcend is respecting others’ limits.
  • Waits for dawn while a crowd, lost under cloudy skies, confuses ceremony with direction.
  • A shared revelation that is in reality a communal archive of unshareable private delusions.
  • Loud promises of transformation that paradoxically ensure the strongest maintenance of the status quo.
  • A community accompanied by trance state: hearts united, minds scattered.
  • Creates the illusion of purpose, when the true purpose is preserving solidarity by silencing doubt.
  • A comical dance of group psychology walking thin ice called enlightenment.

Examples

  • “The Great Awakening! As of tomorrow, we are the harbingers of a new era!”
  • “Awaken, you slumbering souls… but don’t expect any proof, though.”
  • “I’ll take action after this awakening, so for now just let me hype up my emotions.”
  • “If you proclaim ’the world is changing,’ no one dares to complain.”
  • “The truth is always within… yet we shout it out in the outside world.”
  • “The entry fee to the Great Awakening is a free ticket to cease thinking.”
  • “We’ve become one… only that setup is the only truth.”
  • “A shared vision? It’s just a collective delusion of conspiracy.”
  • “When I awaken, hand me a membership card, please.”
  • “Encouraging others to awaken is easy—because you don’t have to do anything yourself.”

Narratives

  • At the Great Awakening gathering, people with fervent expressions were more passionate about chanting in unison than questioning any meaning.
  • They boast of attaining new perspectives, yet by the next day have forgotten even their impressions of awakening.
  • The speaker’s declaration was grandiose, but the content was identical to last night’s social media post.
  • The ritual called the Great Awakening is also a classic scheme for collecting donations into participants’ pockets.
  • Some leave before dawn, others keep shouting until midnight; no one truly knows when dawn arrives.
  • The crowd’s unity is born by treating each individual’s doubts as hate speech and expelling them.
  • The climax of the awakening is roughly something nobody remembers.
  • Under the banner proclaiming ‘Behold the dawn of a new era,’ no one could present a concrete plan.
  • The promise ‘I’ll act once I awaken’ vanished like mist the moment they left the venue.
  • The Great Awakening is an endless prologue. No curtain call is ever announced.
